“Welcome to the
home of Karusa”

En route to the World renowned Cango Caves on the R62 you will find Karusa – a family operated and managed Estate – the first and only in the Klein Karoo.

Karusa Farm Cottage is situated in the heart of Cango Valley on the farm Vogelsang in Schoemanshoek. Vogelsang Farm is the home of Karusa Estate, better known as KARUSA Premium Wines and Craft Brewery, from here the name KARUSA Farm Cottage. This unique cottage is one of two renovated farmworker houses dating back to the 1950’s. These units are a product of passion and dedication as all renovations has been done after hours and by hand only. Not only does this farm stay offers spectacular mountain and landscape views midst the vine yards and orchards but also enables you to engage with nature and explore new adventures. Caring for our environment

Saving Energy

Karusa Estate relies on solar energy and uses ESKOM as a backup plan. The Estate can run off the grid with 196 panels, 3 inverters and a battery bank. As a result the cottages are equipped with minimum electricity usage mainly for lights and to recharge electronic equipment (fridge / freezer available). The heating system (geyser and stove) runs on gas. Please use the hairdryer available. Should you encounter a power failure you may light a candle as the cottages are not yet connected to the solar system.

Protecting the fauna and flora

Our goal is to cause as little as possible hindrance to the environment therefore we make use of bio degradable cleaning detergents. We also encourage guests to recycle and separate kitchen waist as there is a waist bin available for healthy compost.

INTERESTING FACT: Healthy waist/compost includes fresh produce such as fruit and vegetable peels and pips, egg shells, grounded coffee exc. No meat, bones, milk products and left over food.

Saving water

At Karusa Estate we have an integrated water recycling system that allows us to purify used water to re-use for irrigation purposes not forgetting our roof water catchment that is more than 1000mᶾ per year. Seeing that the Klein Karoo is classified as a semi dessert area and bound to drought and water restrictions from time to time, we urge our guests to use water sparingly.

After all, the Khoi – San word, KARUSA, says is all – “Land of thirst” or ‘Land of little water”

Connecting with nature

We encourage our guests to explore the surrounding area as our accommodation has no TV, Wi-Fi and limited network coverage. Hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing, waterfalls and the 7 passes is just some of the things one can do. For rainy days we have a variety of board games and books to choose from. To keep updated on the weather, KARUSA has its very own weather station.

You will find a host who is attentive and available to assist with any query or request. The cottage is simple, with everything you need, and perfectly suitable if you are seeking a quiet time away from it all. You will look out onto the grape vines and plum trees, and the wide expanse of the fields of the farming valley. Each window has a different vista. Behind you, the muted colours of an indigenous mountain, in front the bright green of the vines. Sitting on the terrace in the evening as the sun sets, drinking one of the local wines, is a special moment. Close by you can visit the restaurant for a wine tasting and pizza if you are in the mood for company. And Oudtshoorn is not very far off if you seek more action. I would highly recommend Denielle's farm cottage.

This is a gem of a find in Outshoorn - simple but stylish with great outlooks and set on a working farm - brilliant for R&R. Denielle is an attentive and engaged host and made us feel so welcome. We would highly recommend you spend a few nights here.

Wow wow wow!!! You can't go wrong with this little jewel of a place! The guest house is tucked away in a private corner of the beautiful Karusa wine farm. Mountains, vineyards and fruit orchards all around, and at night an absolutely stunning starry night sky. The house is equipped with everything needed and more! Some thoughtful touches like citronella candles, filter coffee and Victorinox knives. Super clean, stunning decor, comfortable bed and very warm and friendly hospitality. You won't find better than this! Thank you so much Denielle!
